Southampton-based Pediatric Speech, Language & Feeding Therapist

serving Children & Families on East End Long Island

Kelli Bavaro

Kelli Bavaro is a Southampton-based Speech-Language Pathologist specializing in early childhood development, serving children birth through five years of age in eastern Suffolk County, NY. For over 14 years, she has provided speech, language and feeding therapy through a holistic, family-centered, and neurodiversity-affirming lens. Long affectionately known as her mom’s Wildflower, Kelli approaches her work with the belief that every child deserves the space to grow in their own way and time, guiding and supporting them toward living as their most authentic selves.

Her clinical expertise lies in Early Intervention. For more than a decade, Kelli conducted comprehensive, full developmental assessments for California’s Early Start Program (ages birth–3), collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams including physical therapists, occupational therapists, child development specialists, and psychologists. These experiences shaped her deep respect for viewing the child as a whole — not a diagnosis.

In addition to her direct clinical work, Kelli has served as Clinical Director within multiple multidisciplinary practices. In these leadership roles, she mentored clinicians, supported interdisciplinary collaboration, facilitated team meetings and training, and upheld high standards of ethical, evidence-based care. She has spent over a decade supervising clinical fellows and speech-language assistants — a responsibility she considers both an honor, privilege, and learning opportunity.

Kelli is deeply committed to lifelong learning. She continuously pursues advanced coursework and professional development to ensure that her work reflects current research and honors the evolving voices of Neurodivergent individuals.

Originally from eastern Long Island, NY, Kelli spent ten years in San Diego — where she built her career and salsa-danced into the arms of her husband — They returned to Long Island to raise their sons near family in both New York and Türkiye. When she isn’t working with families, you’ll likely find her hiking, hosting spontaneous kitchen dance parties, or knee-deep in a DIY project.

At the Heart of this Practice

Relationship-Based

You know your child best.
Children learn best from those with whom they are most familiar and comfortable.

My role is to support You in enhancing your child's development through daily routines & predictable moments. - so that together, we empower your child to live their most full, authentic life.

Coaching-Focused

The best part about being an SLP is empowering families and a child’s support network (e.g., nannies, tutors, family members, coaches, etc) through coaching.

Coaching includes:

• Modeling
• Reflection
• Guided practice
• Troubleshooting
• Feedback
• Joint interaction

When caregivers feel confident, children flourish.

Holistic & Foundational

I view every child through a systems lens:

• How are their sensory systems working together?
• Are they regulated from a sensory standpoint?
• Are they breathing efficiently?
• Could muscular tone, fascial tension, or jaw alignment be impacting development?

We build from the ground up — strengthening foundational skills before asking for higher-level demands.

Routines-Based

Children learn most effectively within repeated, meaningful routines and predictable moments and activities

We integrate strategies into everyday moments: mealtime, playtime, transitions, outdoor exploration, etc.

Small, sustainable adjustments create lasting growth.

Neurodiversity-Affirming

All brains are different, beautiful, and valuable.

This practice:

• Presumes competence
• Respects bodily autonomy
• Supports total communication (speech, sign, AAC, gesture, gaze, and more)
• Prioritizes sensory regulation
• Does not use compliance-based or reward-based systems
• Builds on strengths

We do not target goals unless they meaningfully benefit and empower the neurodivergent individual.

Testimonials

“Kelli showed ME how to be my own child's therapist. She picked me up every time I blamed myself for my child's delay and reminded me that I'm a great mom and that 'little steps are BIG steps!' She actually trained practically the whole family in ways to help my little one thrive and progress. We would be lost without her.”

— Laura C. Parent of of 3-5 year old

“Kelli was always super sweet. My son had the biggest smile whenever she came for a session. I didn't know why my son wasn't speaking at the time, but Kelli was very patient and utilized various strategies, including sign language to help him communicate.”

- Sandra S.
Parent of 1-3 year old

“As a new parent and single dad, I had no clue how to play with my kid. Kelli had come over to do a developmental assessment for him and even though he had a just a minor delay and didn't qualify for any therapies, she stayed late to answer all of my questions and gave me a bunch of stuff to do around the house that could help him. I requested her a couple years later when my little niece needed speech and she worked wonders on her!‍”

- Adam A. Parent of 2-3 year old

“Kelli is the BEST speech therapist we’ve worked with. She was our first virtual therapist long before it was mandatory, and she exudes so much love, care, compassion, and engagement through the computer screen, I can only imagine how good she must be in-person! My 18 month old daughter LOVED sessions with her, and progressed so quickly week to week once we started working with her. She’s so knowledgeable, but I believe it’s her warm character and her attention that really helped my child thrive. I’m truly grateful for the work that she does and recommend her to everyone I know!”

- Lindsay T. Parent of 2 year old

Kelli’s teaching methods were very effective. I liked the way she catered to my son’s individual needs and that she could really read him, therefore was able to apply her knowledge and experience to his own program. She used methods that I had never heard of or used before (e.g., auditory bombardment, CYCLES) and they really help him.
She is a master in her field.
His sessions with her were always fun and he remained engaged. Kelli is a very creative therapist who is knowledgeable about the most current therapies available and what works. I feel that we were very lucky to have her as my son’s SLP. I highly recommend her!”

-Tracy P. Parent of 3-5 year old

“Mrs. Kelli is absolutely the best therapist I’ve ever known. My lil dude was 15 months old when we start this journey of trying to help him to reach his best potential! Mrs. Kelli is a compassionate caring enthusiastic person she can get to our special needs kiddos like nothing she just connects with them. My boy still remembers her, he is 9 YO and we are gonna be forever thankful for her in our lives! we love and appreciate all the work she did for our Dylan ❤️”
